Today people are shopping with the future welfare of the planet in mind and that can make a difference in many ways. Shopping for products and services that are environmentally friendly is one of the most powerful choices a consumer can make.
Using Solar, Green, or Earth Friendly products is a way to protect your home, your family and decrease your footprint on the environment.
Green as we define it is:
1. The Immediate Impact of our products and practices, and
2. The Residual Impact of our products and Practices.
If we are causing harm at either of these two levels, whatever we are doing is not a Green practice.
Green marketing began in Europe in the early 1980s when certain products were found to be harmful to the earth's atmosphere. Consequently new types of products were created, called "green" products that would cause less damage to the environment. The movement quickly caught on in the United States and has been growing steadily ever since.
If you find a Company who sells Earth Friendly products check out their About Us page and read their commitment to providing green products. If they are a responsible Company they will be looking to reduce waste, conserve energy, and minimize use of resources. Green Companies use biodegradable and recyclable materials for their packaging and shipping needs whenever possible. Their pledge should be to run their business with ethical and sustainable principles and to reduce their carbon footprint on the environment. Look for the Co-Op America seal. The Green America's Green Business Network™ is the oldest, largest, and most diverse network of socially and environmentally responsible businesses in America.
The products you buy everyday can make a difference in how you live your life. Eco-friendly products are healthier because they are made with natural components and not chemically induced ingredients. We know we need to live more cautiously to conserve what we have - especially when so many of our most precious resources are being depleted. There's so much information out there on how to go green and much of it is overwhelming and difficult to fit into our lifestyles. The best advice to give is start slowly with small incremental changes and things will just keep going from there.
