A Gardener's Guide to Organic Pesticide

As the organic industry continues to become popular, a lot of people also began substituting their chemical-based pesticides with the organic ones in growing their plants. Although some people have anxieties in switching because they doubt that the organic pesticides would be as effective as synthetic pesticides.

Organic pesticides are equally as effective as the chemical-based pesticides. This statement would be contested by other gardeners and they would argue that organic pesticides cannot eliminate bugs in the garden. That argument is actually one of the reasons why the use of organic pesticides is recommended.

Biodiversity is essential in a garden. It is healthy to have earthworms, arachnids, insects and live microorganisms in it because they help in balancing the garden's environment. Using chemical-based pesticides put these creatures at risk of being harmed.

If you worry about the pests, then think about this. About 90% of the insects in the garden aid in the plant growth and are in fact harmless. That is why it is really better to use organic pesticides with your plants.

Using synthetic or man-made pesticides may bring danger to the soil, plant and people alike. The immediate effect may not be obvious but believe me, these pesticides may endanger wildlife. Consider this; the pesticide cannot identify the specific organism to affect so whichever comes in contact with it in the garden may either gets sick or die due to the poison content.

Choosing synthetic pesticides over organic pesticides can also harm the soil. There are chemicals that can bring unpleasant effects on plants like inhibiting their growth or killing them. Others may result to growth spurts that can ruin the quality and taste of the product.

The good thing about organic pesticides is that you can actually make them at home with your leftover ingredients. You can actually save because you don't have to spend much for it, just be creative using the ingredients that you have.

I can give you two quick recipes for organic pesticides. The first one is using a garlic bulb and a gallon of water. Mix these together and spray over the soil and leaves of the plants. Next is baking soda, dishwashing liquid and just the right amount of bleach. This mixture can be used when dealing with mildew found on the foliage of plants.
